1ST GENERATION PROTON SAGA



Proton SAGA

The first Proton Saga had to leave the production line was presented at the National Museum of Malaysia as a symbol for the beginning of the automotive industry in Malaysia. Tun Dr Mahathir has also tested a prototype Proton Saga with a 4G63 2.0L engine and a Jalur Gemilang on the Penang Bridge and Penang at the airport during the opening ceremony of the 14th Bridge September 1985.

Early Saga models were powered by SOHC 8-valve 4-cylinder gasoline engine from Mitsubishi, available in 1.3 and 1.5 liters of displacement. Both engines are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission available, but a 3-speed Tri-Matic Automatic Mitsubishi has been with the 1.5-liter engine available in 1987.




The tale was originally offered as a 4-door sedan, introduced by the addition of a hatchback version followed in 1988 when the Proton Knight and was later known as Saga AEROBACK. Proton Knight was designed for the European market as the sedan has been growing in popularity in the United Kingdom.
